Executive Assistant
Born in Canada, lived and worked in Europe, with majority of time in London including 13 years with J. Sainsbury plc., a UK food retailer, employing over 150,000 employees. Leading a team I was responsible for all aspects of HR for a Head Office subsidiary and Depot. Project Managed reduction in workforce affecting 6000 employees. Moved to the US in 1994, becoming a US citizen in 2008. Career within the US has included working for a national non-profit organization on managing special events, as well as administration management for small businesses. Volunteered as a CASA (Court Appointed Advocate) for four years as well as various animal shelters around the Valley, currently working with The Mountains of Hope Foundation to help raise money for advanced breast cancer research. Spare time taken up watching son play rugby and daughter lacrosse and just spending time with our rescue pointer Ripley.
At work: "While working for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society I met Michela who was amazing with all our Hope Ball needs, not just on the end product, but with great ideas and incredible patience for someone new to event planning. So when the opportunity arose to actually come and work with such a great team how could I say no?"
Before settling in Phoenix, Karen has had a home in 5 different countries.
After work: "It's time with family, happy hour, tennis, photography and Ripley who is the only one who can get me up before 6 am to go for a walk, which is good for her and me!"
